The core in which our story revolves around.

Sade and Mai are two kids who were born on the streets, but taken in at a young age. When their caretaker, Zo, goes missing, they set off in search of her. Early on in their journey they stumble into Diric, a smuggler caught sneaking vaccines into settlements, and with no way out of precarious circumstances he becomes forced to take on the role of their new guardian.

Along the path they discover secrets Zo had kept from them, that she used to be a scientist working on vaccines until she discovered the truth about both what lies in the crater of Table Bay, and it’s potential to return the planet to a habitable state. They discover that along with her, a large group of scientists have gone into hiding while they study the crater.

Character Designs: Sade, Mai and Diric.

Age: 10 years

Personality: Mai has an expressive face and is very easy to read. Often curious, explorative and quirky, but can be very awkward in uncomfortable situations. With a bubbly personality she either talks too much or too little, and is wholeheartedly an optimist. Very eager to find and adopt a pet, maybe a dog. She has a frightening side, cold and stern, almost as if she has a dark power lurking inside.

Physical description: Short and skinny, but very energetic. A friendly face with a sparkle in the eye.

Habits: A large excess of energy leads to loud outbursts. Hums and occasionally attempts whistling. Laughs when uncomfortable

Background: Abandoned as a baby, Mai was found and cared for by Sade. The only stability both of them have ever known has been in the care of Zo.

Mai character design

Age: 16 years

Personality: Your typical awkward, arrogant, reckless teenager, although in Sade’s case they are almost always justified. A talented technician and tinkerer, they’ve found clever ways to repurpose or fix old machinery left from the past. Although their communication skills could use some work, they are approachable and respectable and they believe actions speak louder than words. Adaptable and quick thinking, you can rely on Sade to solve arising problems. One of Sade’s greatest dreams is to make a car start.

Physical description: Tall and lanky, moves as if they haven’t got full control over their body. Hair with a life of its own. A devious look in their eyes

Habits: Sade has an unhealthy habit of comparing themselves to others. They fight a constant battle to discover their own identity. Often gets lost in their thoughts and calculations.

Background: The streets are all that Sade has ever really known. At a young age, Sade found Mai as an abandoned baby and adopted her as their own sibling. Later on, Mai and Sade were both taken in by Zo.

Sade character design.

Age: 52 years

Personality: on the surface Diric appears to be quite scary. Although on the serious side he has a tendency for sarcasm, and to laugh at his own jokes. Whilst stern and stubborn he sticks to his morals and values loyalty, but makes sure to remain open-minded. You don’t survive as long as he has in this world without picking up valuable knowledge along the way.

Physical description: large and powerful, built like a mountain. His body is covered in scars and tattoos. His left hand and leg have been modified with contraptions he has picked up on his travels.

Habits: spends most of his time fidgeting and whistling. His squinting implies he’d benefit from a good pair of glasses.

Background: Diric grew up traveling with a nomad clan. Later he found a wife and settled down, but shortly after she died in the pandemic. Searching for a way to make a difference he joined a gang of smugglers, hoping to prevent others from succumbing to the same misfortune.
